What Are Curtain Rod Brackets? Curtain rod brackets are a form of drapery hardware or curtain hardware also known as rod holders used to hang curtain rods and curtains. They come in many materials including metal, ceramic, plastic and wood. Metal is the most common material because it’s durable, strong and often blends into the background.
Types of Curtain Rod Brackets:
• Single Brackets. Pretty straight forward. These are best if you’re going to hang one layer of curtains. Single rod brackets are typically sold in a set and study enough to hold most drapery materials.
• Double Brackets. Double duty! Double curtain rod brackets allow you to hang two layers of curtains. Two layers of curtains add dimension to your window and give it a more formal designer look. A second layer also provides the ability to add a sheer or blackout panel to control the amount of light you want to keep in or let out.
• Center Support Brackets. Your back-up brackets. If your curtains cover a lengthy window span, you’ll need a center support bracket. This functional bracket helps hold the rod up and prevent it from bowing.
• Adjustable Brackets. Pick a size, any size! These brackets allow you to extend or shorten the bracket to fit different types of windows…which is awesome because some windows project further out from the wall than others. Adjustable brackets ensure you can achieve the right amount of depth on just about any window!
How to Select Curtain Rod Brackets?
1. Plan it out. Start by determining the appropriate clearance, return and projection. Then measure all three!
2. Clearance. Measure from the back of the curtain rod or drapery rod to the wall or window, this will be your clearance. Clearance is the open or free space between the back of your curtain and the wall and/or window.
3. Return. Measure from the point where your window curtain will hang once it’s placed on the rod. Return it is the number of inches from that point back to the wall/window.
4. Projection. Measure the projection from the front of the bracket back to the wall. Projection is the measurement of the full extension of the curtain bracket, front to back, from the mounting plate to the outer end. It is the overall extension of the bracket, front to back.
