An easy version

There is no mention of any named author leading me to believe that it is an edited version of Sir Richard Burton's translation of the original Arabian Nights. Yet some of the original illustrations of Rene Bull are used. Very strange that no author or group of co authors are named nor any credit given to anyone. Stil,l well written but by whom?

Fun so far

I'm 90 pages in and enjoying reading so far. This book is lovely in my library and the photo does it no justice. As for the other person complaining about no quotations... what can I say. I think the editors tried to leave it to be more in line with how it was originally written, which apparently might bother some folks. But frankly, I don't care. I generally understand what's going on and it's not too difficult to figure out. I'm enjoying learning about the history of that time, the way women are viewed, interested in old fears, etc... in any case, if missing quotes are something that you think would annoy you to no end, by all means, choose another book. But otherwise, enjoy this one, with its beautiful exterior and interesting illustrations.

...unreadable? What?

So, this book is quite handsome with its colors, gilding, ribbon bookmark, illustrations, so forth. I'll give it credit for that, but...how did this make it past any competent editor? There are literally (and I do mean literally) NO quotation marks in the entire book! And what's worse, there's no change in paragraph with a new speaker! Somehow this book hasn't been checked for the absolute basics of structure, and as a result it is exceedingly jarring/confusing to attempt to read. I've included a photo to illustrate this - see if those paragraphs make any sense to you! It's like trying to read a child's post on an online forum that has zero stops in it. There's no way to tell when anyone is speaking, nor when one character stops speaking and the next one begins! Seriously, shame on you, whoever edited this. And don't try to claim it has something to do with the translation or the way it was originally written. This is not how we read books. Oh well, it's pretty anyway. It was only five dollars and not worth returning (I guess I got what I paid for). Perhaps somebody at Goodwill will enjoy it, though I feel like I'll be playing a dirty trick on them. I feel bad for the illustrator, that their works have been so badly crippled. I'll look for a copy that was actually edited instead.
