Beautiful book and a fun read

I'm a Stephen Fry fan and I've long been interested in learning more about Greek Mythology, so I eagerly picked this book. I didn't realize, however, that it is a new edition of an existing work. When I mentioned it to my son, he said that he owned all three of the series and loved them. So, I'm late to the party but a new enthusiastic reader. Stephen Fry's storytelling is imaginative, witty, and intelligent. He doesn't spare the reader the more salacious and violent details of the myths that were often sanitized from our school books, but he does keep his tongue firmly in cheek while sharing them. Footnotes help relate the stories to contemporary life. The biggest treat in this new edition is that it is fully illustrated with stunning pictures by Jesus Sotes. This makes it an excellent choice for a special gift, and an heirloom edition. Many thanks to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this special ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
