Amish Mystery!

A young Amish woman goes missing, there are no clues about her disappearance, and her family members are left with unanswered questions that threaten to tear their family apart! Did she leave home willingly, or is there something or someone that's preventing her return? Author Wanda E. Brunstetter shares Rosa Petersheim's intriguing story in the first book of a new series, and her writing skills have never been more evident. The character development is excellent and the portrayed emotions are spot on! Rosa's father wavers between denial and bitterness, her mother Elsie experiences overwhelming grief, and there's one sister who hopes to become her mother's "new favorite". And then there's Norman, the brother who blames himself for not protecting Rosa. He dedicates his life to a desperate search that may end up destroying his own future happiness! The Protector is set in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania in the Amish community of Belleville so the suggestion that Rosa may have willingly left her Amish community presents an intriguing dilemma. Will this community support the Petersheims or will they be censored? We're reminded that tragedy and loss are universal. surface emotions are often misleading, and none of us can truly understand another person's feelings. Families can be strengthened, or they can be destroyed by stress and grief! This well-written book kept me fully engaged with its romance, mystery, and inspiring message of faith. I recommend The Protector to all who enjoy Amish fiction, and I look forward to the next Mifflin County Mystery! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Unique Perspective

When Rosa Petersheim disappears without a trace, all of Big Valley is shaken. Not the least of which is her brother, Norman. And as the family's struggles mount, Norman's protective side is stretched thin. He throws himself into following every possible lead, to the neglect of his girlfriend, Salina. While Salina tries to be supportive, Norman falls deeper and deeper in to the mystery of Rosa's disappearance. Can he accept what he may never solve? Or will the Petersheim family be torn apart? I do enjoy Brunstetter's writing and this one definitely does a beautiful job of combining a mystery with the wholesomeness of Amish fiction. I was also intrigued by the fact that the main character was a man. It's not often you find a male lead in this genre, particularly one that acts as the nurturer. Brunstetter does a great job of bringing out Norman's nurturing side with his family while still maintaining his masculinity. Additionally, while Rosa is never actually present in this novel, her impact on the family is felt strongly throughout the writing. Brunstetter leaves us on a cliffhanger, with her disappearance still a mystery. All in all, The Protector was a good book with a unique perspective. I look forward to seeing where the author takes the storyline from her as she continues the series. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction or is looking for a mystery. *Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Finding Rosa

This is book one of A Mifflin County Mystery series, after a night out with her boyfriend, Rosa Petersheim has disappeared from the Big Valley without a trace. Norman Petersheim always considered himself his sister's protector, and he can't believe she would have left home of her own accord. Clearly, he must have failed her. He throws all he has into helping the authorities search for Rosa, while trying to support his parents and siblings--who are struggling both mentally and physically. Salina Swarey loves Norman and hopes they are headed toward marriage, but his obsession with Rosa's whereabouts is driving them apart. Can Norman find peace and contentment, even if he never learns where Rosa has gone? This was a well-written book that shows how a family deals with a missing adult child. This is the first book in a new series. I look forward to finding Rosa. I look forward to learning more about Rosa’s family. Where is Rosa?

Where is Rosa? This is book one The Protector, a Mifflin County Mystery series by Wanda E. Brunstetter. Rosa Petersheim has disappeared after being with her boyfriend and there is no trace of where she is or what happened to her. Did she leave the community on her own free will, was she kidnapped or even alive? Norman Petersheim, Rosa’s brother has been looking for her and searching for answers with no luck. Norman is so obsessed with finding his sister that it is affecting his relationship with his girlfriend who hopes to marry Norman one day. But, with Norman concentrating more on Rosa and not his girlfriend puts their relationship in jeopardy. Rosa’s mother is grieving so much that it is affecting her health. The middle daughter is trying to win her mother’s favoritism by doing more of what Rosa would have done, hoping that her mother would favor her and not Rosa. The book seems to have a different story line from other books that I have read by Wanda but it is still a great book. It does not reveal where or what happened to Rosa but the story will continue in book two The Peacemaker due March 1, 2025 (too long to wait!) I am looking forward to the next book and hope to find out what happened to Rosa. I do recommend this book to anyone who likes Amish fiction and a clean, Christian mystery. I received a complimentary copy of the book and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions are my own.

An Awesome Start to a New Series!!

Wanda Brunstetter's The Protector is the first in the Mifflin County Mystery series. The story centers on the disappearance of Rosa. The story shows how a tragedy, like Rosa's disappearance can affect each person in the family differently from the youngest to the oldest. It also shows how often we try to do things in our own power and we don't get anywhere until we realize we just have to leave it to God and trust in Him. I can't wait for the next book in the, series. I was given a copy of the book from Barbour and was not obligated to write this review

A Compelling Amish Mystery

I always enjoy a Wanda E. Brunstetter novel as it transports me to the Amish community, where family and a simpler way of life take center stage. These novels are always inspirational and heartfelt. Her latest novel incorporates a mystery into its central plot, which will play out over three books. Rosa Petersheim has gone missing after a night out with her boyfriend and his friends. There is no sign of her, and the Petersheim family is devastated. The oldest son, Norman, always protected his sister, but in this one instance, he feels he failed her and let the whole family down. As he grapples with his guilt, his relationship with his girlfriend, Salina Swarey becomes strained. Can Norman forgive himself and save his relationship? Even if he never sees Rosa again. The grief and sadness of the family can be felt as each character deals with this tragedy in different ways. It is very realistic and heartbreaking to read. Norman tries to help find Rosa, but there are few clues as to whether she left on her own or if something nefarious happened. As Norman's story plays out, readers will have to wait for the next two books in the series to see what happened to Rosa. I found this novel realistic, compelling, and hopeful, as the mystery of a missing young woman affects all of those left behind.

The Protector

I have always enjoyed reading Wanda E Brunstetter's books and was excited to get my hands on her newest release, The Protector. It starts off the Mifflin County Mystery series. I was instantly intrigued with this story. I wondered what could have happened with Rosa and seeing how concerned everyone involved. Her brother, Norman, is so obsessed with finding out what led to her disappearance that it affected his own life. I thought this was a great story to read that kept me engaged from start to finish. I am giving The Protector five stars. I believe fans of Amish Fiction and mysteries will want to pick this one up. It is definitely worth a read and I look forward to seeing what will be uncovered with Rosa's disappearance and catching up with those of her community in the second installment of the Mifflin County Mystery series, The Peacemaker. I received a paperback copy of Wanda E Brunstetter's The Protector from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
