Great Idea, Horrible Execution

I really didn't want to hate this camera. I love the idea of a camera designed for vlogging. There is something about Cannon, where they somehow lose out on specs or even raw ability, but are able to harness streamlined workflow to a level that is hard to describe for those that don't use them. As streamlined of a vlogging camera as the G7Xiii is, it still requires a mic and a tripod. Not a lot of set up to get a very professional look with very little editing, but then they go and add both of those things in camera, make controls easier to access to the user, and supply it with a decent sized sensor. The real issue here is the lens. It is slow and soft and doesn't zoom. i realize this was created as kind of a cheapish novelty item to see if the idea took off, but if you had put the same lens as the G7Xiii on this body, I think this camera would be seen a lot differently. As it is, I can't really recommend this to anyone, because it doesn't really matter that you can deal with tripod issues by adjusting the angle or maybe adding a book or the like if the quality of the image, even in good lighting, isn't going to be sharp or pleasing, and awful in low light and not the most versitle of lenses. I don't see why you would want to use this for still as video is generally more forgiving of lens issues, not to mention handling isn't comfortable, though I guess possible in a pinch. The only real upside is that the price seems to keep dropping on this and as a one stop shop it might not be the worst as a my first youtuber camera, but the image quality is just too lacking to really recommend.

Coulda shoulda woulda

Terrible. Non removable battery. Battery life about an hour you'll spend all your time on the charger. Small buttons. The functionality is good with the app, Bluetooth wifi transfer and Webcam function. It could've been amazing if only it had a removable battery. Especially for the price.

Short social media interview camera

very similar controls like Canon has on the cameras, very versatile for quick short cameos, great quality video and can edit on imovie etc... like other comments, I wish the battery lasted longer and charged faster.... the small chip can come out if the plastic cover is not snug and locked down..

Better than my phone

Works okay. I might just try taking it apart to see if new pads and paste can help delay overheating for a bit longer. Right now 4K 24fps will record for 17 minutes before it overheats, and I'd like to be able to use this to record video for elementary music concerts I run. Came without a lens cap, but every other accessory was in the box. This is probably the cheapest way to record 4K video that isn't buying an old iPhone and 4 stars is for value (I paid 2 hunge)

Poor Replacement

I wrote the most liked review of the G7Xiii. I love point and shoots as a rule. I love a more streamlined approach to social media and video creation. I didn't really see a reason to buy this when it came out as it didn't have any quality increases over the G7Xiii but eventually the price came down and I decided to rent one to test it out. The idea that there was a usable onboard mic and came with its own stand really appealed to me. The biggest issue is the lens here isn't good. Forget the fact that it can't zoom, which unlike what other reviewers have said, really does negatively affect image quality if you have to zoom, but even wide open, it just isn't a very sharp or fast lens. There is no 1" sensor that is going to perform well with low light to include this one. The autofocus isn't great. I also find the lens to be too wide and the fact that you almost need to have the camera closer to compensate can often create weird shadows and lighting issues to the point it really limits the use of the camera. I appreciate this camera was largely designed to appeal to those used to a phone with controls that could be manipulated while the camera is facing you and I don't hate this design element, but would much prefer if they were able to put the same lens as on the G7Xiii or G5Xii. I realize that might add cost and weight, but the lens makes this camera almost unusable for me. It really feels more and more like Canon aren't interested in this segment of the market and don't want to cannibalize their lower end mirrorless options.
