Good Quality Images

After two days of shooting with this lens, I have to admit that I’m impressed with the image quality. Pictures are clear and sharp. The lens is wide enough to get a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing the lens straight ahead.

Good image quality

I bought this lens and after using it for two days of photography, I have to say that I’m impressed. The view angle is wide enough for a good wide angle shot but not so wide that I can see my shoes when pointing straight ahead. The images are impressively crisp and detailed for the price.

Impressed

This is the first lens I bought with my R8 and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s very bright and crisp, and the close zooming is impressive!

A Great Prime For APS-C

Purchased this lens for low-light general photo and video on my R7 (where it acts as a 38.4mm full frame equivalent), and it has certainly delivered for that purpose. The weak corners are cropped out on APS-C, leaving behind sharp and colorful imagery throughout. It's quite silent for video work too, perhaps due to the "Slow Focus Transition" setting. The image quality is even great wide open at f/1.8, however I've found the chromatic aberration at this aperture can ruin certain high-contrast scenes (such as snowscapes with dark tree trunks) despite not being overly visible on the LCD/EVF. Stop down to f/2.8 or darker in such scenarios. Unfortunately, I found it awkward to use for macro thanks to the focus breathing, which is a shame as the colors and sharpness are great. The moving focal element can be awkward too, and feels fragile even if it isn't particularly. The lack of an included hood it very petty on Canon's part. For $300 during a refurbished sale, this lens was well worth the money, especially for a crop camera. As a bonus it looks quite nice aesthetically mounted on the R7 too.
