Smart and funny, with characters so real and vulnerable, you want to send them care packages. I loved this book. —Rainbow Rowell From debut author Mary H.K. Choi comes a compulsively readable novel that shows young love in all its awkward glory—perfect for fans of Eleanor & Park and To All the Boys I've Loved Before. For Penny Lee, high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she'd somehow landed a boyfriend, they never managed to know much about each other. Now Penny is heading to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer. It's seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can't wait to leave behind. Sam's stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he's a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him. When Sam and Penny cross paths it's less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams.

Cheesy and Cute, Entertaining Characters

The first page caught my eye immediately. Penny may not be relatable to a particular group audiences, especially when she faces her micro aggressive from other characters. But she was an enjoyable character and I’ve let out a few smiles and chuckles reading her point of views. Sam on the other hand, will remind you of the typical “cute dude that works at a cafe” trope. He’s pretty interesting too when you read his point of view, he got himself in some sticky situation that made me shake my head for him. Overall it was fun to read, the characters were a huge factor to that!

AMAZING BOOK

I love this book so much, I swear I’ve read it so many times and never get tired of it, it has so much heart and really doesn’t dramatize a load of real life stress and problems. Overall DEFINITELY get this book!!

Not My Genre

I am more of a young adult fiction books where it has some type of violence, action books that AREN"T slow. They can still have some type of love relationship but it can't be boring. I tried to read different types of genres and I chose this book from BookTok and I read the first 19 pages and it was a bit boring. I though it was just a slow start and hoping that something that captures me towards the middle or the end of the book. So, I flipped somewhere towards the end to see if something happens that would motivate me to continue reading and finish the book but, it was still boring. If you like romance books or teen romance I recommend but if your like me, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time reading a 394 page book.

Disturbing

made me uncomfortable right in the first chapter, not really “realistic” characters but more so just blatantly rude. Seemed like a tween had written it.

Cute Cheesy Fluff

I originally bought this when this book first debuted in 2018 but half way through, i got a little bored and stopped. BUT finally after 2-3 years i picked it up again and decided to truck through the more slower part of the book that i struggled with, it’s definitely worth the read. it has characters that i have surprisingly never seen before (cute tattooed coffee shop boys) and a cute plot line between the two main characters that jusf kept me going and i often caught myself smiling through the book!
