From Below by Darcy Coates is a thrilling and captivating read that had me hooked from start to finish. At nearly 500 pages, it’s one of Coates’ longer books, and while some parts felt like they dragged on a bit, the overall experience was still fantastic! The characters are well-developed, with intriguing backstories that made them feel real and relatable. The central mystery surrounding the Arcadia’s mysterious sinking in 1928 immediately drew me in, and Coates masterfully weaves suspense and eerie tension throughout the story. It’s a perfect blend of mystery, horror, and character-driven storytelling that kept me turning pages late into the night. If you enjoy a slow-building but deeply immersive horror story with a strong sense of atmosphere and a gripping mystery, From Below is a must-read. I’m so glad I picked this one up!

An absolutely great book
I couldn't put it down. Darcy Coates has an extraordinary way of writing stories. I'll read her stories as long as she keeps writing. I love the fact that she writes with bluntness & gets to it; all the while providing a slow burn. It was truly riveting & when it picks up, it picks up. The characters are so readable & you feel like you're right there with them. Vanna was my favorite character. Vanna was written to add another layer of suspense & turned out to be one of the strongest characters. Will definitely reread this again.

Shiver Me Timbers!
Darcy first reeled me in with "They Drown Our Daughters." Her writing style, while sometimes blunt, managed to build vivid and stunningly creepy scenarios that played like an excellent horror movie in my imagination. The characters are well developed and the story truly caught me off guard with how Darcy managed to reinvigorate the over-written "watch out, that thing's haunted" genre. Give it a go, you won't regret it (unless you read it right before bed)!

Really good... but not great.
The first half had me on the edge, anxious and low key terrified if I'm being honest. The second half, no spoilers, left me dissatisfied.... The book follows two timelines that intertwine beautifully, and the countdown to sinking timeline had me shook. I'm still thinking about it. But the present timeline left me disappointed. Like it's scary, but....

Hold Your Breath Horror
Darcy Coates takes you from the haunted house to the haunted ocean. Imagine being hundreds of feet below water, with threats of darkness and lack of oxygen...that alone is terrifying. Darcy takes it to the next level with people buried in walls, creepy sounds from the darkness, and the idea that you, too, may become part of the sunken ship. Follow a present day documentary crew as they try to uncover the mysteries of what happened to the falling crew of the sunken SS Arcadia that disappeared in 1928.
