God, I Feel Sad: Bringing Big Emotions to a Bigger God by Michelle Nietert
Product details
Web ID: 16244691Sweet book
God, I Feel Sad indicates that God gave us many emotions, and sadness is one a child might especially feel when they make mistakes, look different, are left out, or aren’t feeling well. This book lets children know that feeling sad is normal and we feel it for a reason. It also reveals productive ways they can overcome or avoid feelings of sadness. One of the most powerful ways is to talk to someone, whether a friend, parent, or most of all—God. With easy-to-understand text and colorful, diverse, and imaginative illustrations, children learn that sadness is temporary and there is always hope of feeling happy again. I love the closing message and Scripture verse, revealing God cares, knows how we’re feeling, and is alongside you and your feelings. #CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Feelings
This book talks about all the different emotions. The illustrations reflect the feelings discussed. Pictures show kids in different everyday situations that may make them feel a certain way. It doesn’t go into details about the whys and hows that are connected to emotions, but it’s a great start to talking to kids about how they are feeling.

Excellent Family Resource
As parents, we want to shelter and protect our children from ever having to face sadness in their life, but unfortunately we can't always do that. In this broken world, our children are going to go through things that cause sadness, pain, and hurt. This book helps children understand that sadness is a natural feeling that we are allowed to feel, how to walk through sadness, and ways to cope. I would recommend getting this book now, and not waiting until your child is dealing with sadness so they can have an understanding of this emotion beforehand. Even as an adult, the wisdom this book contains is right on for dealing with my own struggles at times with sadness and depression.

Great resource!
“Hope is God’s promise to help you find your happy again.” Best line of the book, and there are LOTS of great lines and points in this book to help kids understand and wrap their heads around their sadness. The authors do a marvelous job of recognizing their feelings of sadness and exploring exactly what that means. There’s even some tips to help them manage sadness and grow closer to God, too. Excellent resource for anyone who loves little ones! (And the message is great for adults, too!) - Julie Lavender, author of Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime (Zeitgeist/Penguin Random House) and 365 Ways to Love Your Child: Turning Little Moments into Lasting Memories (Revell/Baker)

A Positive Message All Children Need to Hear
This book is written with sensitivity and addresses a variety of circumstances that make adults and children sad, such as bullying, an injury, or sickness. The illustrations are beautiful and include children from a variety of ethnicities. It gives children ideas for how to handle sadness, and best of all it teaches children about God's unconditional love and concern. I highly recommend this book.

A Must Read for Children, Parents, And Teachers
God, I Feel Sad is a must-have for every library, church, and home. This beautifully illustrated book helps define emotions, what they feel like, and how they are expressed in real time. Children are shown healthy ways to deal with their feelings, and most importantly, they are encouraged to know that God loves them and is always there for them to talk to and help them. As an adult, this book blessed my heart, and it encourages me to take this tool and use it to help children learn how to recognize and deal with their feelings in a healthy way so they can live more hopeful in this discouraging and hopeless culture. I received a temporary digital copy through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and feelings on the book.

Exceptional Children's Book
God, I feel sad is an incredible resource for children, and the adult's who love them. It can be challenging to help children understand the big, hard feelings they experience. This book makes it simple. This is a book to buy for your child, their teacher, Sunday School teacher or their school library! The story is well written, clear and full of hope. This beautiful little book helps normalize our sadness and even better, it gives us a clear way to process it. The illustrations are fun, diverse and inclusive. If you are looking for a book for a child you love, a child going through hard things or a SEL program, this is the book for you! As a social worker, I am seeing children experience more intense emotions and parents struggling to help them regulate and manage these big feelings. This book can help us all find our way through! The audible version has bonus sections that are really helpful!

Hope in teh Midst of Sadness
This little book thoroughly explores sadness and how to process it. While completely kid-friendly, it will help more than a few adult readers too. Not only do authors Fortner and Nietert give practical tips on working through sadness and its ebbs and flows, they also gently remind readers of God's presence with them and His gifts of hope--which come in a variety as extensive as God's creativity. This is a must-have for your library.
