The #1 New York Times bestseller! Witty, wise, and tender. It's a marvel. Paula Hawkins, author of The Girl on the Train and A Slow Fire Burning To say I love this book is an understatement. It's a deep psychological mystery about the power of motherhood, the intensity of teenage love, and the danger of perfection. It moved me to tears. Reese WitherspoonFrom the bestselling author of Everything I Never Told You and Our Missing Hearts comes a riveting novel that traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren an enigmatic artist and single mother who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair.

A Compelling Read!

I read "Little Fires Everywhere" for a book club in my high school English class and was immediately captivated by the interesting plotlines, following a wealthy family, the Richardsons, and a single mom's family, Mia Warren. Celeste Ng did not fail to engage the reader, as she intertwined all aspects of the plot lines together, carefully crafting what seemed to be a perfect town but that was hiding many secrets. This book was engaging to read and raises questions about family dysfuntion, societal influence, and the struggles of young adulthood. For a group of high schoolers, it teaches the importance of making good decisions and comforts teens who may be dealing with social pressure from their peers or families. Ng's novel, "Little Fires Everywhere" not only applies to young adult audiences but also explores themes of parenthood by following the mothers of both families. The complexities of raising teenagers and balancing work life with interaction with their child's life are heavily prevalant throughout the book, leading to relationship issues with their children in the end. The novel touches on the past trauma of the mothers and can be relatable for a mature audience who is confused and unhopeful in their parenting. Overall, this book is a must-read for young adults, parents, and anyone who is looking for a book that will compel them for a while!

Terrible All Around

I would leave 0 stars if possible.Terrible ending, way too many long side stories half of which contribute nothing to the plot. Overall it felt very unfinished, I forced myself to finish this book and it gave me a book hangover, I didn’t read for a month. If you like boring side stories that don’t add to the ending and endings that don’t leave you satisfied then this book is for you.

Love it!

This book sneaks up on you. Starts with a slow burn and then takes off, the characters come alive and you can just imagine it playing on the tv.

I wanted to love this book!

I have been an avid reader for about 15+ years now and in this time frame, I have only not finished less than a handful of books. I find myself always wanting to give the book a chance to "see if it gets better". With that being said I am so very disappointed in this book. I just couldn't wait to finish the book I was reading to start this one when it came in the mail. My expectations were maybe a little too high? The hype was misjudged? I'm not sure what it is but I just can't force myself to finish it. It's very slow. I feel it is giving away too much insight on each day in the life of the characters (which gets so very repetitive) that I am starting to feel like there will not be a "point" to the storyline. What is the storyline? I wanted drama, suspense, an overview of the characters but then move on to the action. I'm ten chapters in and unfortunately putting it down. I hate to say this but I think we need to add a DNF labeling option tab as I just had to start my very first custom DNF tab :(

Not great

Just bc it made it to Hulu as a. Series and in Reese Witherspoon book club does not make it a great book. I could not get into this book at all. Kinda of painful to keep reading something you don’t care for but bought it so had to finish it. And even then at the end it was not good.

Everybody Loves A Good Suburban Drama

A dramatic quick read that is perfect for when you want something short, quick and punchy to read as entertainment. A story of seemingly picture-perfect people that spirals out of control as dark and long buried family secrets are revealed.
