A great coat with a few areas for improvement.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this jacket to replace a Marmot Bastion Component 3-in-1 jacket that I purchased in 2008. The seems like a reasonable replacement though with a few drawbacks. First, the things that are great: the Gore-Tex is a trusted product and it sheds water quite well and breathes as good as any membrane. Definitely a nice upgrade. The design, cut, and quality all seem top notch. This will likely be another 15-year coat for me. The pocket placement is generally good. The hood adjustment points are perfectly placed. The sleeves are an ideal length. So much to love about this jacket. Three drawbacks keep me from giving it 5 stars: 1. This coat is heavy. The Bastione was no lightweight, but the outer waterproof layer is one of the heaviest non-insulated coats I've owned. (I know my subsequent complaints are about lack of zippers which just add weight, but it is really the outer shell that seems unreasonably heavy - likely a feature of the Gore-Tex.) 2. There are no pit-zips in the insulating inner layer - a downgrade from the older Bastione. I tend to sweat easily, and additional ventilation would be nice. 3. The end of the sleeves have a weird sort of rolled cuff which can look a bit wonky. Not sure the design reason for it, and it isn't a big deal, but it leaves an open question as to whether or not the sleeve is straight. 4. It would be nice to have a chest pocket on the internal, insulated jacket for when wearing it separately. That is the only thing that makes you nice you are wearing part of a 3-in-1 rather than a stand-alone synthetic puffy.

Great jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great jacket. It looks and feels bulletproof. It isn't quite as warm as I was expecting, since the insulating liner could be a little heavier, but I knew it wasn't a full fill when I ordered it.

A great ski jacket for layering
What I most like about this jacket is that it fits me well, yet is roomy enough to layer up for those colder days on the mountain. I returned a more expensive jacket from a competitor because it was a snug, athletic fit and didn’t leave enough room for layering. Personally, I don’t care about the ability to convert the jacket to a shell, and I would have preferred deep glove pockets inside the jacket instead. But I didn’t ding it for that because the jacket is as advertised. Overall it’s the quality you’d expect from Marmot. I have used it on one ski trip already and I am happy with it, particularly at the sale price.

Great experience so far (2 days out Spring skiing)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great jacket. My only gripe is that the zippers get caught more easily than on my Rossignol. One thing I had not counted on was just how great the liner is as a standalone synthetic puffy. So far I am only using them separately, as I got this for Spring skiing.

Almost Perfect
This is one of my favorite jackets and I’ve got a closet full of I hope they never discontinue this. The pockets are in all the perfect places. Someone finally realized that the forearm is where you put the pass pocket. The removable hood is a must as hoods just don’t work for riding. They are fine for walking around town but when riding in heavy terrain peripheral vision is mandatory. The inner layer jacket is perfect and I wear it with all my jackets unless it’s a warm day. Super comfy and I’ll wear it on its own as well. Goretex is a must where I ski in the Sierra and all other brands fall short. I don’t waste my time with anything else. The sizing is accurate and nothing out of proportion. The only fault I can find with the jacket is the black color has faded significantly. Yes, I do wear it a lot but I’ve never had a jacket fade like this. Also, since this is the perfect jacket it should be offered in an array of colors. Red, blue, green, yellow, orange, gray, tan, black. Just go solid colors and don’t try silly ugly combos like North Face does.
