Web ID: 15924432Colorful Adventure Story
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and not required to write a positive review. This is a colorful adventure story set in Hawaii. My daughter (age 4) enjoyed looking at all the pictures and learning some of the fun new words about ocean life and seashells. The book follows two brothers (Ocean and Kingston) and their adorable dog (Sasha) who are looking for a way to make their mother's birthday special. The boys want to find their mother's favorite shell to give to her but as the story progresses they worry they might not be able to find one in time for the party. On their adventure they learn interesting facts about life on their island including octopuses, turtles, fish and even a volcano. It would make a perfect summer read for children. I would recommend it for ages 4-7 as a read aloud but kids as old as 10 might enjoy reading it for themselves. My one comment is this book was published by a Christian company and I was slightly disappointed that there was no religious message or influence to the book – if you are considering this book thinking it has a Christian message it does not. It is simply a colorful adventure story.

An adorable children's book
I received a early copy of this book as a member of Carlos and Alexa's Launch Team for this book. The story begins with Ocean and Kingston going to the beach to find beautiful shells for their mom. They want to find the sunrise shell. The book also contains some fun facts about the ocean. The boys find a pod of bottlenose dolphins first before thinking they have found a sunrise shell which they did not. They find a hermit crab which uses empty snail shells as protection and put it back. They find a baby turtle and go and find a nest of unhatched eggs. The Hawaiian word for turtle is honu. They also find a cone shell and a cowrie shell. They decide to go surfing since Ocean does his best thinking on the water. The fish and whales decide to surf with them and discover a tide pool in hopes of finding a sunrise shell. They find a trition's trumpet shell instead and also discover a eel, stingray, jellyfish, and several kinds of crabs. So the boys decide to go snorkeling to try and find the sunrise shell and find Red Sea urchins and a school of blue-green parrot fish. A octopus wraps it's long arms around the shell and ocean grabs his little brother's hand and goes to the surface. So after that they go to the Haleakala crater to search for the sunrise shell. A goose called a nene takes a leaf that Kingston wants to give to their mom. The volcano begins to shake so they head toward the forest and start to head home. Then as Ocean hangs his head in defeat they find a sunrise shell which is only found in Hawaii. The boys make it home in time for mom's party and to light the candles on the cake. So Ocean and Kingston show their mom the shells that they found and she told them she hoped they didn't go to too much trouble to get them and ocean said it was an adventure. The End. It was a adorable children's book that lots of kids will enjoy.

A Quest for Mom's birthday gift!
Oceans World by Carlos and Alexa Penavega is a cute children's book suited for younger kids, especially in the 4-6 year-old age range. The story opens with brothers Ocean and Kingston going on a quest to find their mom's favorite shell - the Sunrise Shell - for her birthday. One has to not to take the plot too seriously as the two boys go to the beach alone, surf alone and snorkel alone and go to a volcano without mom or dad! (Not realistic!) The book's illustrations are wonderful with LOTS of color. There are nuggets of science facts sprinkled throughout the story which adds to the book's charm along with some Hawaiian terminolog. A fun read overall! #OceansWorldBook

Fun book for the kiddos to read
This is a great and fantastic book for your kids to read. I wish I had a kids book like this when I was younger. I would've totally begged my parents to get it for me. I feel like if I were a kid I would enjoy it. It's the perfect gift for kids who not only love reading but also if they love the ocean life or the beach.

Children's Fiction
This is a Children's book that I read to my twin boys. I loved the pictures in this book, and I love all the facts and Hawaii words in this book. I have found that this book's storyline does not flow easily, and I also found that one of the little boys in this book being named Ocean was a little confusing. I really wanted to love this book, but I did not love it or hate it. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
