Solid dinner recipes. Great for beginners
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. These aren’t the most wild and unique recipes you’ll find, but they are solid, very tasty, and great when you need to get a dinner on the table that’s fun and exciting for whole family. Great for beginning my cooks looking to spend a bit more time in the kitchen.

Your new GO TO resource for dinner
I am a fan of Jenn's blog and have been following her for years. Her recipes never disappoint. I love to have her recipes and photos in a beautiful book to display on my counter. Her beef stew is absolutely THE BEST. Buy the cookbook for that recipe alone, but you will find yourself making many more of her delicious dishes. My book is full of sticky notes marking recipes I want to try. The recipes always use ingredients you have on hand or can easily get at the grocery store. The meals can be fancy or just kicked up versions of basic family friendly recipes. Jenn shares the techniques and chef secrets to make you a rock star in the kitchen.

Antidote to the “What’s for Dinner?” Angst!
I have been cooking from this cookbook for more than a month, and I love it so much! Everything that I have made has turned out delicious, and has been added to our regular rotation. The overall layout between what you can reasonably make during a work-week, versus what you might make with more time on a weekend, is so smart! And the chapters include many familiar items updated for contemporary tastes. The coconut curry soup is a breeze with rotisserie chicken, but introduces new flavors to a typical chicken soup. The balsamic salad dressing is better than any I have had from a grocery store bottle. The Fish Tacos are such a nice change from the traditional, and the cheater ciabatta pizzas are weeknight genius! Aside from the recipes, the author freely shares what she calls “pro tips” that make your time in the kitchen more efficient. For instance, she explains why using chicken tenders can be a nice alternative to chicken breasts. This is one tip I incorporated with success in the pecorino-rosemary chicken depicted below. I am making the penne with vodka (depicted below) tomorrow for the 4th time in as many weeks. Jennifer Segal gets it! Sometimes we cook because we HAVE to, and sometimes we cook because we WANT to…but it’s always an act of love toward those gathered around our tables, and Jennifer shows us how to complete the task at hand efficiently, without sacrificing anything in the flavor department. I did receive a free copy of this book from Clarkson Potter in exchange for my free and unbiased review, and I am so happy to add this book to my permanent collection. I highly recommend it, and know you will not be disappointed!

Incredibly useful cookbook for busy people
Once Upon a Chef: Weeknight/Weekend by Jennifer Segal is a great cookbook for busy people. As a parent of three kids 7 and under, this book has already been a godsend for our family. The book is full of mouthwatering recipes (with gorgeous pictures) that have helped us menu plan around soccer, piano, and whatever else we have going on. There are other recipes for times when you want to spend time in the kitchen (the “Weekend” from the title) that are both interesting and more of a challenge for a home cook. The baked ziti from the cover was the first thing I made. Nothing sounded better than hearty baked pasta with bubbling cheese and savory Italian sausage. This was much better than anything that I’ve thrown together using store-bought jarred sauce and much easier to put together than sauces that require babysitting and a long simmer on the stovetop. This recipe, from the “weeknight” part of the book, was easy to put together with items that I regularly have in my pantry, fridge, and freezer. My wife immediately declared that this recipe needed to be in regular rotation. My kids gobbled it up. Next, I made the fettuccine carbonara because I love carbonara. Like the baked ziti, this was a staple-superstar, coaxing a lot of flavor out of ingredients that we had on hand. While my kids were a bit skeptical, that only left more for the adults to have as leftovers. This is another recipe that will be made again and again. Everyone was happy with Segal’s decadent spin on Rice Krispies Treats. Her version of the childhood classic involves brown butter, vanilla, a good hit of salt, and crushed Golden Grahams. These were amazing – rich and flavorful. I brought some to my office and made my colleagues Monday a bit better. These could be an incredible secret weapon at any bake sale or picnic. I have not had an opportunity to make any of the “Weekend” meals yet. The section is split between brunch, family dinners, and “decadent” desserts. I’m here for all of these recipes, including a few things I’ve been too intimidated to do try before like seafood paella. I’m excited to keep cooking through this book, which is certain to be stained soon from its frequent use. I’ve received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review. All opinions expressed above are my own.

Beautiful, easy to use cookbook
I’ve received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review. Since I received this book, I’ve made 2dinners and 1dessert. The sheet pan roast chicken with artichokes, carrots and peas was really easy to prepare. The chicken thighs were great paired with artichokes. The baked ziti with sausage was unbelievably good. I make baked ziti all the time, but never added meat to it. I needed an easy dinner that I could prepare the day before. This will be a regular meal for my family.I have an ice cream maker and a lot of frozen raspberries so I decided to make the raspberry frozen yogurt. It was so easy and only 4 ingredients. Will definitely be making this again, it was very refreshing. This is a really nice book to add to your collection.

Easy, Tasty Weeknights and Weekend Meals
This chef and blogger is new to me. When I received the cookbook in the mail, I was excited to read it. It looked appealing and a brief look at the contents had me looking forward to checking out the recipes. The recipes are easy to prepare and has some tips and and make ahead instructions throughout. The weeknight dinners are eye-pleasing and flavorful as well as the weekend recipes being more luscious. There were many recipes that looked so good and I have marked to make in the near future: Lasagna Soup with Ricotta Cheese, Muffuletta Salad with Olive Vinaigrette, Croque Monsieur, Ciabatta Pesto Pizza, Baked Ziti with Sausage, the Marvelous Meatballs section, Seafood & Sausage Paella, and the Latin-Style Roast Pork with Chimichurri Sauce. The recipes are family pleasing and not difficult to prepare. I highly recommend adding this cookbook to the family cookbook collection for flavorful meals. I've received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review.
