Great collection

This is the final installment in the Pillow Thoughts series. This collection of poetry is about healing the soul, through grieving, empowering, and recovering. Most of these poems are spoken directly to “you.” Often the “you” is the speaker’s former partner. The technique of speaking directly to the reader brings the reader right into the poetry. It made me feel more connected to the poetry, since it seems to be speaking to me. I loved the comparisons to nature. There has been a lot of nature imagery throughout the series, with the images of the jellyfish, the fox, and the owl. There were some poems that compared the soul to nature. You have to weed a garden to make plants grow, just as you have to look after your soul to keep yourself well. The parts about grief were quite moving. Though we don’t like feeling grief, it is a part of life that we all have to go through. We can’t have good moments, if there aren’t bad moments to compare them to. These poems say it’s okay to grieve, but you must move on after. Empowerment was another important theme of this collection. Empowerment can heal the soul by encouraging you to keep going. It’s important not to judge your success by the success of someone else. This is so difficult to do, because we want to be the best we can, and it can be discouraging when someone else has what you want. However, everyone has different skills and works at different speeds, so it isn’t fair to compare yourself to other people. This is a beautiful poetry collection. Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I recieved this book from net galley in exchange for an honest review. I found this collection to be both enjoyable and relatable, but repetitive at times. The artwork is beautiful.

Happy ending

The arc of Pillow Thoughts is beautiful in concept. Supportive and encouraging in message and loving and comforting in the careful choice of words. It’s also softly f/f centric in certain areas that I wish came out a little more as it had in Courtney’s past works in this journey. However, in this installment I truly struggled to enjoy it as I had the first book. Sure there were a few pages that I enjoyed and while I think this fourth book was better than others, as a whole it was overly repetitive and beaten to death. Each work attempting to find new ways to say the same thing as the pages before it. Additionally, none of the topics are relatively new or special. After awhile a lot of it felt superficial and exaggerated in its purpose. Potentially, this might fair better as an audio book if the option were ever made available, but even still I don’t know how much I could take in one sitting.

Empowering

Courtney Peppernell dives into the goods and bads of love. The importance of healing. In her latest book she focuses on the mind. The mind is powerful and with a healed mind you can get over the state of brokenness. As she said in the beginning ' before we begin, I'd like to remind you of a story. Once upon a time there was a jellyfish called you. You had ventured with heart and mind You had found strength You had found wisdom and You had mended the mind. Now you must become whole and find light within tge soul. I hate the spoiler ending. But you can heal hearts, minds, and Souls'. You have to power to do anything, you are your own healer. If you're in need for an empowering read then this is for you.

Lacks originality and profundity

"The stars and colors you see when you rub your eyes are called phosphenes. I wonder what it is called every time I close my eyes and I see your face in the stars and our love in the colors." Thank you Andrews McMeel and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc. Divided into 8 parts: 'If your soul is grieving', 'If your soul is lonely', 'If your soul is searching', 'If your soul is whole', 'If your soul needs empowering', 'If your soul needs a breathe', 'If your soul needs a friend' and 'These are for your soul', this collection fails to hit the potential mark- lacking originality, profundity and poetical undertones in the proses which take a huge chunk in this latest addition to the 'Pillow Thoughts' series by Courtney Peppernell. The collection explores the usual trope of themes that are mentioned in the titles of the section. The affirming reminders missed the essence of poetry and most of the pieces in this collection felt repetitive and far too simple for my taste. I loved 'I Hope You Stay' out of all works by Courtney and I really missed the essence of her poetry in 'Stitching The Soul'. There were times when they felt like bland quotes but I cannot deny that this collection also holds few of her best pieces yet. I enjoyed the section, 'If your soul is whole', a bit as it beheld the magic that Courtney's works have! The caveat is that it doesn't talk about the main theme of the collection, Stitching The Soul, the way one would expect it to; one would presume it would be of one's existence but it just felt more like one's heart or mind. And I could have taken it any other day but since the previous works solely focused on heart and mind, I expected it to focus and portray the theme differently. Nevertheless, it is a collection that I don't necessarily recommend but you should consider giving this a shot: it was not for me but it might be for you!

A beautiful conclusion to pillow thoughts series

Pillow Thoughts IV by Courtney Peppernell is the final installment in the series and concludes on a beautiful note. Her poems are like a friend reaching out across a coffee table to hold your hand while you piece yourself back together, while you stew in your grief and tape back the shattered pieces of yourself. There is hope and understanding in her words and love for the person you are and will be as you rebuild yourself up after loss. I find great comfort in her words and can’t wait to own this book so I can tag my favorite lines and curl up in my favorite couch with tea and re-read it all again and savor it even more. *** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
