Arrived in Winter, Still using in Summer!

I'm not a huge juice or mocktail expert, which made this book extra appealing to me. I work from home, so finding some amped up beverages to keep me going throughout the day was awesome. I like the simplicity of the 1st section "Elevated Everyday Essentials" and they were easy to incorpate into my routine: making my iced tea a little more fun/fancy for example. I also made the Spicy Grapefruit Detox margarita as a great mocktail option at my bookclub dinner party. It was a HIT. There are a couple recipes mixed in, which are fine, but the real value of this book is having all those easy recipes and twists you've seen on social media put together thoughtfully in one place. This is a slim volume, which keeps it approachable! I have a bunch of the pages tabbed and will use for reference for quite some time. Great summer cookbook

Ten Speed Press provided me with a free copy of this book; opinions are my own. Slim, colorful photos, good ideas for healthy, vibrant, colorful drinks and elixers. Easy to find ingredients, and some new ways to spice up ordinary teas, and milks. Love the Green Tea Peach Sangria, this one will be appearing at my next book club meeting, booze optional lol. The Life Affirming Chickpea Soup was also a favorite for the whole family, simple and easy to make. Bring your favorite healthy drinks and bites home

Meredith Youngson has done a great job with this book. What a great gift for those into nutrition. I don't know that all these recipes are 100% healthy for you but they do seem like clean eating and really that's what most of us need. Less processed and just whole foods. This book gave me a reason to go out and finally buy matcha and hemp seed and wow I wish I would have done it sooner. Super Tonics has great crown pleasing elixirs. Your friends and family will be surprised to be drinking such delicious and healthy concoctions. There are also kid friendly food, especially the power bites. The chocolate bliss bark makes the book with the cost! Super easy recipe and just delicious. We all could use a little healthier options in our lives and Meredith has given us the keys to make that happen. Ten Speed provided me with a free copy of this book; the opinions are my own.

Tonics Designed to Boost Your Self-care

Holistic nutritionist Meredith Youngson started out developing recipes, struggled with stress and depression, then turned to self-care techniques, finally discovering the power of herbs, teas and tonics. Her visually stunning Super Tonics offers 75 recipes to boost nutrition at every part of the day. After explaining the various ingredients she uses in her elixirs, Youngson starts with the basics: first how to drink more water by infusing it with a variety of fruits and herbs, such as strawberry and cucumber slices or raspberries with fresh basil leaves. She offers a wide variety of iced tea drinks made by combining green or back tea with everything from coconut milk to honey to peaches. I found these a great jumping-off point for devising my own combinations. Youngson shows readers how to make what she terms her "all-purpose plant milk" and a vanilla cashew creamer. Other recipes include what she terms "super coffee" that adds honey, coconut oil and other ingredients to your morning cup; an iced power mocha that is a more nutritious version of my favorite iced coffee; and flu-fighter wellness shots. Among my favorite recipes are a superfruit yogurt bowl, which I find wonderfully adaptable, and strawberry sunshine chia compote, an easy fruit sauce that can flavor everything from oatmeal to yogurt to toast. There's even a superfood popcorn. By sprinkling the various sections of the book with self-care tips for every part of the day, Youngson makes Super Tonics a guide for mental as well as physical health. I took a point off my rating because none of the recipes include calorie or nutrition breakdowns though I realize that doing so would be difficult since many of the recipes offer various ingredient combinations, and because the use of white type against colored backgrounds in various parts of the book can be a bit difficult to read. Self-care all day, every day!

This book came at the right time, as I’ve been making breakfast smoothies a lot lately, but making the same smoothie over and over. Super Tonics has boosted my smoothie game and not just in the morning. The book is organized into “get up & glow” drinks to “beauty sleep" elixirs, allowing for a variety of self-care all day, every day. The book also has a few other recipes, like "nice" cream, energy bites and other treats in addition to all the tonics. I love the smaller size of the book, it sits on my kitchen counter next to my blender, and I seem to grab for it more often for inspiration. I wasn't familiar with the author, and enjoyed reading about her story and Lake & Oak Tea Co, which she founded. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to up their self-care game inside and out! Super Tonics is a small but mighty book. I wasn't expecting much at first glance, but once I started flipping through the pages of the paperback, I was pleasantly impressed! It's essentially a pocket guide for improving your well-being, one simple recipe or habit at a time. So, what will you find? Author and holistic nutritionist Meredith Youngson offers: - An overview of superfoods, adaptogens and plant ingredients – and why and how to incorporate them into your diet and cooking (Her almond butter and jam overnights oats are incredible – so decadent and yet somehow healthy!?!) - Tips for drinking more water and other fluids – In fact, most of the recipes in Super Tonics are for hot and cold beverages (thus my 4- versus 5-star rating) - A ton of easy ideas for finding more joy in your daily life – Light a candle. Shake up an evening tonic. Spa-ify your bathroom. If you're looking to live healthier but don't know where to start, Super Tonics is for you. It's approachable and inspiring … and good for you, too!
