NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A Most Anticipated Book of 2022 by Cosmopolitan, Good reads, PopSugar, and more! From the author of the Good reads Choice Award winner The Spanish Love Deception, the eagerly anticipated follow-up featuring Rosie Graham and Lucas Martin, who are forced to share a New York apartment. Rosie Graham has a problem. A few, actually. She just quit her well paid job to focus on her secret career as a romance writer. She hasn't told her family and now has terrible writer's block. Then, the ceiling of her New York apartment literally crumbles on her. Luckily she has her best friend Lina's spare key while she's out of town. But Rosie doesn't know that Lina has already lent her apartment to her cousin Lucas, who Rosie has been stalking - for lack of a better word - on Instagram for the last few months. Lucas seems intent on coming to her rescue like a Spanish knight in shining armor. Only this one strolls around the place in a towel, has a distracting grin, and an irresistible accent. Oh, and he cooks. Lucas offers to let Rosie stay with him, at least until she can find some affordable temporary housing. And then he proposes an outrageous experiment to bring back her literary muse and meet her deadline - He'll take her on a series of experimental dates meant to jump-start her romantic inspiration. Rosie has nothing to lose.

Love This One More Than The 1st One

5 ⭐️ Okay, now this was something! I loved this book more than I thought I would because I didn't like the first one as much and I thought I would like this book even less. Now, let me tell you how wrong I was!! This book gave everything that the first book couldn't give. I felt all the chemistry between Rosie & Lucas. They were so cute together, they took care of each other, they understood each other, and they cared for each other!! I don't know why, I just enjoyed this book too much! *Chef's kiss* 😚🤌🏼

I love a Latina Queen

I’ve heard a lot about this author and thought this concept was cute. It took a while for me to get into it, started off a little slow for me but it did pick up and I found Rosie and Lucas cute! I wish the epilogue have more than it did but I love the Latin representation in the book. Lina is my favorite character though, loved her ! Heard a lot of people loved her first novel so I’ll give the Spanish love deception a shot.

This One was Okay

This book was very meh for me. I read the first one (The Spanish Love Deception) about a year ago and went in with high expectations that fell short. I did not enjoy it as much as all of booktok seemed to, but I still thought it was okay enough to give this next one a shot. And my verdict: it was decent. There were a few cute moments here and there, and I enjoyed parts of the experimental dates that Lucas and Rosie went on. However, there were also a lot of moments in the book that just felt unnatural, and I found myself cringing through multiple scenes and sections of dialogue. I didn’t absolutely hate it but I also did not love, so I would say my overall rating would be 3/5⭐️

An absolute masterpiece!

“The American Roommate Experiment” truly is a love letter to romance novels. Armas incorporates all of the best tropes (fake relationship, forced proximity, friends to lovers) in her newest release and writes from two perspectives for the very first time. I fell in love with Lucas the moment he graced the page and loved every chapter told from his point-of-view. He cooks, is a dog lover, has the best laugh, and embodies romance. He truly is the definition of a cinnamon roll character, which I found to be a breath of fresh air considering the abundance of grumpy bad boys serving as the main love interest in romance novels nowadays. Armas takes her time developing Lucas’ character and making sure that he has depth. Through his actions, we learn that Lucas is willing to prioritize the happiness of others over himself and that he is struggling to confront the demons of his past. Luckily, Rosie gives Lucas the love and support that he needs. She complements him every way and I loved watching her come to that realization towards the end of the book. Their slow burning romance makes their relationship all the more realistic and, in my opinion, satisfying. I really admire Rosie’s character and enjoyed following her storyline as an engineer turned romance writer. Her decision to chase her dreams is a message that I know that many readers will resonate with. Rosie is also fiercely protective over her family, which helped me further relate to her character. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my love for Armas’ incorporation of the Spanish language and the warm fuzzy feeling I got every time Aaron and Lina from “The Spanish Love Deception” made a cameo. I absolutely loved catching up with them. This book truly has a special place in my heart. I cannot wait to reread it again and again until Armas new book comes out in fall 2023.

It had promise!

Elena Armas debut novel, The Spanish Love Deception, was one of my favorite romances from last year so I was super excited to finally read The American Roommate Experiment. While the previous novel had my favorite enemies to lovers trope, I was certain this novel would be just as cute. I was right and I was wrong. I really liked both of these characters and enjoyed their story. Lucas was completely adorable and while going through his own identity crisis brought the Latin heat to this story. Rosie, also was sweet and her crush on Lucas was adorable to read so I don’t understand why it didn’t hit the same note as The Spanish Love Deception. Maybe if felt slightly safe and was a story that has been told before and this one didn’t differentiate itself from the pack. What could’ve helped make this novel great? Both characters didn’t open up to each other until the very end, and there wasn’t enough of a journey towards that moment of realization. Lucas was avoiding his own issues while Rosie was trying to face hers so there was a disparity that held them back and that felt a little disjointed. I know this is totally minor and like I said, I liked them both as well as a lot of moments in the story but with a couple of tweaks, I think this could’ve been as great as her first novel, instead of just good.
