The Language of Thorns was an amazing, mesmerizing and memorable collection of stories from the Grishaverse. I loved reading these fairytale like stories. They were really captivating and magical. Leigh Bardugo is a really great fantasy author. And it was also nice to think these were the stories Alina, Mal and other characters from the Grishaverse grew up reading. And the illustrations were beautiful.

Bewitching!
Though I like folk and fairy tales, they tend to be rather formulaic, with a very traditional writing style. Not so this collection of tales pulled from the lands of the Grishaverse. These six stories, while following a familiar path, also deviate greatly in their lyrical and engrossing writing. These are not typical fairy tales you speed through just to find out what happens, but ones that you consume slowly, enjoying the build-up and savoring the language. The Soldier Prince clearly draws inspiration from The Nutcracker, and When Water Sang Fire is an even darker version of the original Little Mermaid. But I preferred the other four tales that didn't remind me of any story I'd ever heard. My favorite was The Witch of Duva, in which Nadya is saved from a terrible fate by someone wholly unexpected. A beautiful collection - absolutely bewitching.
