The buzz... is real. I've read it and was blown away. It's a true nerve-shredder that keeps its mind-blowing secrets to the very end. - Stephen King Winner of the British Fantasy Award for Best Horror Novel! A World Fantasy Award Finalist! An Indie Next Pick! A Library Reads Top 10 Pick! A Library Journal Editors' Pick! STARRED reviews from Library Journal and Publishers Weekly! Named one of the "50 Best Horror Books of All Time" by Esquire! "Brilliant.... deeply frightening deconstruction of the illusion of the self." - The New York Times Catriona Ward's The Last House on Needless Street is a shocking and immersive read perfect for fans of Gone Girl and The Haunting of Hill House. In a boarded-up house on a dead-end street at the edge of the wild Washington woods lives a family of three. A teenage girl who isn't allowed outside, not after last time. A man who drinks alone in front of his TV, trying to ignore the gaps in his memory. And a house cat who loves napping and reading the Bible. An unspeakable secret binds them together, but when a new neighbor moves in next door, what is buried out among the birch trees may come back to haunt them all.

If I could give it zero stars I would.

This book is just gross. It is not worth wasting money on I really tried to push through and keep reading but I couldn’t.

THE LAST HOUSE ON NEEDLESS STREET by Catriona Ward This was an *experience*. I usually listen to audiobooks while doing other things, but I had to sit and pay attention for the last half of the book. If you don’t have the time/patience to be fully engaged in this story I’d skip it. Focus is needed because you’ll miss seemingly insignificant yet important details. Ted, Dee and Olivia (and Laura), kept me guessing and questioning everything. At one point I stopped what I was doing to exclaim, “WHAT?!”. Then I had to go back and listen again. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a dark, psychological horror with multilayered characters that’s both haunting and heartbreaking, this one is it. Highly recommend! Note: Narration by Christopher Ragland was excellent! IDK how he managed to do multiple, distinct voices/characters so easily, but I was impressed. Rating: 4.75/5 ⭐️

unexpected plot twist

This book was a great read. Chapters are separated into individual characters, so its not confusing. The plot twist had me wanting to finish as fast as I could.

Got me back into reading!

I read this a couple months ago on a whim of boredom. I am already a fan of horror, but never really delved into the book side of the genre. This book was definitely an amazing introduction. While it wasn't super scary, which I thought would upset me, it never failed to shock me almost every other chapter. The aspect that makes it horror is how scary and unknown the mind is. I would really recommend this to anyone, but more to those who need a book that makes them think hard afterwards.

Stunningly suspenseful

Just when I thought I had the story figured out, it had me second-guessing myself at every turn.

an experience you do not want to miss

I read many of the reviews before I started reading this book and still ended up with a completely different story than I had expected. The mood is dark, sometimes sad, always expectant. The characters seem two dimensional at the beginning but then we learn they have been traumatized and their dark moods have been earned. I did expect to be drawn into the story and I was, but on a completely different level. I was in the story's many levels of plot as each voice brought a different vision, a different opinion, a different outcome from their experience. I will agree with so many of the reviews I read......read the **** book. It's the only way to truly appreciate the story as it unfolds. Catriona Ward is a genius.
