Timeless Story That Appeals to All Ages
"The Little Prince" left an indelible impression on me 48 years ago when I read it in third grade Language Arts. I still have that copy with all the passages about grown-ups my teacher had us underline. The story opens with the narrator reflecting back to his childhood. His fascination at learning about boa constrictors led him to create a picture of one. But, alas, the grown-ups just didn't understand his drawing. The book continues in the present where the narrator has crash landed in the Sahara desert. There, stranded in the desert, he encounters a charming, child-like, enigmatic little prince who asks him to draw a sheep for him. The bulk of the book describes what the narrator learns bout the little prince, his home planet (Asteroid B 612) and the various grown-ups he encountered in his travels through the solar system. It then returns to the present predicament of the narrator and the final parting of ways of the two unlikely desert companions. The book is an indictment of an adulthood, all too recognizable, that has replaced a child-like wonder and intuition for what is truly meaningful with a driving concern for “matters of consequence.” A second major theme is how love adds meaning and purpose to life. There are not many books, illustrated, no less, that can capture the imagination of a 8-year-old and still leave a 56-year-old with a sense that there are still more depths to plumb. "The Little Prince" may be a quick, 2 hour read, but it will leave you with much to ponder for days to come. Note: My copy is translated by Katherine Woods. I cannot speak to this particular edition's translation.

Amazing story and teaches a very good lesson
The little prince is such a nice and funny character that makes you think about things in ways you could not imagine. He pulls you into his mind as he takes you through his time on his planet and on earth and how he discovered how everything is special in its own way. The way the characters, The Little Prince and the pilot match personalities so well and how they bonded over the weirded conversations just makes your heart want to melt. This is a heart felt book full of a bunch of morals and was not just meant to be read by kids but was more meant to be read by adults. The story talks about how grownups grow up way too quickly and that you need to have fun in your life. If you like books to teach you how to look at the world in different ways and perspectives or books that have a really deep meaning behind them I recommend this book to you. Let the little prince take you into a story you will never forget!
