I read this book... it worked. My autoimmune disease is gone and I'm 37 pounds lighter. - Kelly Clarkson Most of us have heard of gluten - a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. But what if we've been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox, renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, protein called lectin. Lectins are found not only in grains like wheat but also in foods most of us commonly regard as healthy, including many fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and conventional dairy products. These proteins, which are found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds, and leaves of plants, are designed by nature to protect them from predators (including humans). Once ingested, they incite a kind of chemical warfare in our bodies, causing inflammatory reactions that can lead to weight gain and serious health conditions. At his waitlist-only clinics in California, Dr. Gundry has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, diabetes, leaky gut syndrome, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases with a protocol that detoxes the cells, repairs the gut, and nourishes the body.

The Plant Paradox

First of all, I do not consider myself to have evolved from apes. Second, all the foods that are not healthy are all the foods I grew up on. Maybe it is all the chemicals and processing of food that are killing us. I've read and researched all these diets and not one works, It is all about what we are putting into our bodies and how much of it. Sugars are the real enemy. It is in everything even bread.

Misleading

Most of the claims in this book can be easily debunked by the fact that lectins are most potent in their raw state, and are inactivated once cooked or soaked in water. We rarely consume high amounts of lectins because they are predominantly found in raw foods, such as dried beans, which are not consumed raw by humans. You would be better off using Google scholar to research studies rather than believing the non-scientific claims presented in this book. This Book presents intentional misinformation in order to try to sell you supplements and a restrictive diet that would necessitate buying a specific cookbook. Blue zones, areas around the world with high concentrations of centenarians, predominantly eat plant-based foods rich in lectins, among other factors. If you want to learn about a diet/lifestyle that has been proven to increase longevity and health, read about the Blue Zones!

Great educational read

I learned so much from this book and what goes into our food. Dr. Gundry sites his research and that of others he has studied so you know it’s not just speculation, and with his extensive background in healthcare you just can’t help but learn a lot!
