A pair of the shoes came with two colors

Bought this pair of shoes as a Christmas gift for my niece. She was so excited when she received the package. However, her excitement immediately drop to zero because the pair of shoes came with one side of black, one side of brown. Is it a new style? I wonder how the processor packed this order? We were so disappointed!! I am not sure if this happened often.
